Meating every expectation
This place is more than a business — it’s our story. And we’re honored to share it with you…
Welcome
we are so glad you are here !!
What started as a small piece of soil and a big hope in 1949 has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of: a place where tradition is honoured, quality is non-negotiable, and every step is taken with care.
Whether you’re lighting the braai for a weekend feast or making your favourite meal at home, we want you to feel the heart behind every bite. From the way we raise our animals to how we prepare our meat, it’s all done with honesty, intention, and a deep love for what we do.
We believe South Africa is blessed with some of the best meat in the world — and we see it as our privilege to honour that. To give back through quality. To serve with consistency. And to carry this legacy forward for the next generation.
Our farming enterprise has evolved into a leading commercial sheep and cattle farm. We proudly raise pure Merino sheep, known for producing high-value wool, along with a dedicated small commercial cattle operation.
Established in 2010, the Driefontein Feedlot features a fully automated lamb feeding system that utilizes RFID technology for precise growth tracking. With an on-site feed factory, we ensure the quality of our feed, thus guaranteeing superior meat for our customers.
Opened in 2015, the Driefontein Abattoir provides critical slaughtering services to local farmers while creating jobs for more than 120 community members. We are dedicated to delivering high-quality meat products.
Launched in 2020 by Henning’s son, Pieter Campbell Joubert, Driefontein Honey focuses on sustainable beekeeping practices, producing pure, unfiltered honey. We are dedicated to preserving bee populations and promoting the natural health benefits of honey.
Initiated in 2019, this growing enterprise began as a small operation aimed at supplying high-quality eggs to local communities. Through careful husbandry and sustainable farming practices, we now deliver fresh eggs to Bethulie and surrounding areas.
Under the leadership of Leana Joubert, our experienced shearing teams deliver cost-effective, top-quality services to the Xhariep district, supported by continuous training and advanced technology that empowers farmers to maximize wool profitability.
OUR STORY
Driefontein was founded in 1949 by Oupa Henning Johannes Joubert, shortly after marrying Helena Mathilda Grobbelaar. With a shared dream and strong hands, they laid the first stones of a legacy built on faith, family, and farming. Together, they turned a humble piece of land into a working farm that would serve generations to come…
After the sudden loss of both his parents, their son, Pieter Joubert, stepped up at just 17 years old. With little more than grit and a deep love for the land, he kept the farm going — and growing.
In 1994, Henning Jacobus Joubert, Oupa Pieter’s son, joined the family operation. With a passion for progress and innovation, Henning brought new ideas to the table, expanding Driefontein’s operations while staying rooted in the values passed down through generations. It was under his leadership that the Driefontein Abattoir was born — a pivotal step that would later become one of the farm’s proudest divisions.
Today, the next Pieter Joubert — yes, same name, different generation — proudly leads the abattoir. We like to say the name stayed the same, but the game changed. As Henning’s son and the fourth generation on the farm, Pieter has transformed the abattoir into a well-oiled, values-driven operation that plays a key role in Driefontein’s success today. With strong leadership, a hands-on approach, and a deep understanding of both people and product, his impact has been nothing short of remarkable.
Driefontein has always been more than just a farm — it’s a family legacy shaped by resilience, faith, and a deep-rooted commitment to doing things the right way. From generation to generation, our story keeps growing — one name, one handshake, and one good cut at a time.
